LONDON – Operatorship of the Brae Area in the UK central North Sea will transfer to TAQA Bratani, subject to UK government approval.

Last year Marathon Oil, the original developer of the multi-platform complex, agreed to sell its operated interest to RockRose Energy.

However, TAQA and the other joint venture partners, JX Nippon and Spirit Energy, instituted legal proceedings last month related to the notice of discharge that had been served on Marathon Oil UK, as operator prior to RockRose’s acquisition on July 1, 2019.

RockRose said it would continue to work with TAQA during the transition process to ensure no disruption to operations, including the current drilling program at West Brae, and expects to complete the handover in the second of half of this year.

During its brief tenure, the company said it had increased remaining reserves, extended the cessation of production at Brae Alpha by at least three years to 2030 and by two years at East Brae.

Brae Bravo has been successfully de-manned ahead of decommissioning, the company added, and the general working environment improved through a rota change offshore and restructuring of the operational leadership.
