RAINFORD, UK --Shell has contracted Welding Units UK for high performance connectors for pipelines in the southern North Sea.

The connectors are destined for the new Caraval/Shamrock and L09 developments in the UK and Dutch sectors. For LO9, operated by NAM Holland, the company will also supply 16-in (40.6 cm), ANSI class 2,500 lb flanges in A694 F65 carbon steel, plus 2 in (5 cm) ANSI 2,500 lb flanges in the A694 F52 steel grade.

The pipelines will run from lightweight monotower platforms to processing facilities in eastern England and western Holland. These will be a combination of gas export lines and piggy back reverse direction flow lines transporting MEG corrosion inhibitor. All key joints in the pipeline subsea infrastructure will employ the Welding Units flanges, as will the monotowers' riser support hangers.
