STAVAGER, Norway -- StatoilHydro has contracted Saipem to install export pipelines for the Gjøa field development in the North Sea.

Saipem plans to mobilize theCastoro Sei for the two-month pipelay operation, starting in April 2009. Gas from Gjøa will head through a 130-km (81-mi), 28-in. (71-cm) pipeline to the UK's Flags trunkline, which connects to the St. Fergus processing terminal in eastern Scotland.

A 55-km (34- mi), 16-in. (40.6-cm) pipeline will transport stabilized crude from Gjøa to the Troll II trunkline, and onwards to the Mongstad refinery north of Bergen. Gjøa is being developed with a semisubmersible floating production platform, also tying in the Vega and Vega South fields.
