Galsi, Snam Rete Gas sign MOU on trans-Mediterranean pipeline

Galsi Spa and Snam Rete Gas Spa have signed a memorandum of understanding regarding construction of the Italian section of a pipeline from Algeria to Italy via Sardinia.

ROME – Galsi Spa and Snam Rete Gas Spa have signed a memorandum of understanding regarding construction of the Italian section of a pipeline from Algeria to Italy via Sardinia.

The initial capacity is set at 8 Bcm (282.5 Bcf) per year starting in 2012. The complete pipeline will be some 900 km (560 mi) long with 600 km (375 mi) of that subsbea. The maximum depth will be about 2,800 m (9,186 ft) between Algeria and Sardinia.

Galsi, owned by Sonatrach (38%), Edison (16%), Enel (13.5%), Wintershall (9%), Hera (10%), and Regione Sardegna (10%), will be responsible for the engineering work and for obtaining the relevant permits and main authorizations. Snam Rete Gas will be in charge of the construction and subsequent management of the transportation.
