Super Puma to patrol Troll/Oseberg

STAVANGER, Norway --StatoilHydro has contracted CHC Helicopter Service for a new search and rescue helicopter to serve the Troll/Oseberg operations in the North Sea.

The EC225 Super Puma aircraft is part of a range from Eurocopters introduced in 2004. It has a maximum range of 987 km (613 mi) and a fast cruise speed of 278 kph (173mph). For evacuation purposes, it can accommodate patients on 12 stretchers, with six seated casualties, and can withstand a maximum sling load in rescue mode of 11,200 kg (30,000 lb).

The helicopter will be stationed at the Oseberg field center, with a similar aircraft based in Bergen acting as a reserve for both Troll/Oseberg and the Tampen area fields. The contract is effective from Oct. 2008 through May 2016, with optional extensions of up to four years.
