STAVANGER, Norway --StatoilHydro has exercised an option to extend its use of the Claycutter X excavation technique at the Ormen Lange field.

The remotely-controlled tool, developed by AGR Group, provides a range of excavation modes that are interchangeable subsea, in soils up to 400 KPa shear strength. On Ormen Lange, it will be used with another AGR device, the Seavator, which employs a high-volume vertical flow of seawater to clear debris.

By exercising this option, StatoilHydro has increased the contract value to AGR to $26.8 million. It also almost doubles the excavation volume to around 3,900 cu m (5,101 cu yd), with the work period also doubling to 64 days.
