OSLO, Norway --Hydro has contracted AGR Subsea to deploy the Claycutter X seabed excavation system on the Ormen Lange project.
This new, remotely operated technology is designed to allow precise excavation in all water depths and soil conditions up to 400 KPa shear strength. On Ormen Lange, it will be used to prepare deepwater routes across and through the undulating seabed prior to pipeline installations.
Hydro awarded AGR the $14.84-million contract following a five-month tender evaluation. Deployment of the Claycutter X should start in mid-2008, according to AGR Drilling Services' Sveinung Olsen. It will be used on Ormen Lange in tandem with AGR's Seavator, which employs a high volume vertical flow of seawater to clear debris.
