OSLO, Norway --Norway's Petroleum Safety Authority has approved ConocoPhillips' plan to modify the 24-in. (60.97-cm) diameter Eldfisk oil pipeline in the Norwegian North Sea.

Due to corrosion in certain areas, the company needs to replace a 9.4-km (5.84-mi) section of the pipeline. Under the disposal terms, the pipeline must be buried or covered and abandoned on the seabed.
