DARLINGTON, UK --DeepOcean subsidiary CTC Marine Projects is building what it claims is the world's largest, most powerful subsea trenching vehicle.
The RT-1Rock Trencher is a 170 metric ton (187 ton) machine with 2.3 MW of power, designed specifically for hard ground operations. It should be deployable in soil conditions up to 40 MPa, providing benefits in terms of hard ground pipeline stabilization.
Delivery is due in April 2008. CTC aims to offer the vehicle for operations worldwide, and in particular in hard-ground subsea regions such as the northwest Australian shelf, the arctic, and the Shetlands.
