HOUSTON -- Dassault Systèmes has released a new version of its Abaqus finite element analysis (FEA) software from SIMULIA. The new version has enhanced capabilities for meshing models using cylindrical elements, which can be employed for pipeline design.

The new product suite assists modeling and design of threaded connectors, which withstand a variety of loading conditions. Factors such as thread engagement, torque, bending, axial pullout, internal pressure under operating and overload conditions, and potential fluid leakage can all be simulated.

An application for pipelines is in the ability to simulate pressure penetration between two contacting components that have been threaded onto each other and exposed at one or multiple ends to a fluid pressure, say Abaqus’ developers.
