MARSEILLE, France -- Saipem has awarded Cybernetix a second contract for the Kashagan development in the North Caspian Sea. This agreement is connected to the flowlines for the project’s second and third development phases.

Early this year Cybernetix delivered a suite of subsea temperature monitoring systems for installation on the Kashagan multi-phase pipelines, as part of the hydrate prevention and management program.

The company also provided onsite technical assistance this April during the onshore installation phase of the first systems, which have been designed to last over 30 years.

In mid-2008, Cybernetix provided an initial set of non-intrusive temperature monitoring systems to Saipem for the same project.

The main challenges with the development are a combination of high hydrogen sulfide content in the wellstream, high pressures, and low temperatures. The oilfield is also in ultra-shallow water, and the complexity of the reservoir and the severe conditions in winter add to the difficulties and costs.
