Saipem to lay pipeline to Jack, St. Malo

Amberjack Pipeline Co. LLC has awarded Saipem a $700-million contract to provide the Walker Ridge export pipeline within the development work surrounding the Jack and St. Malo fields in the Gulf of Mexico.

MILAN, Italy – Less than a week after announcing approval of the project, Amberjack Pipeline Co. LLC has awarded Saipem a $700-million contract to provide the Walker Ridge export pipeline within the development work surrounding the Jack and St. Malo fields in the Gulf of Mexico.

Work includes transportation and installation of a crude oil export pipeline 61 cm (24 in) in diameter and 220 km (136 mi) long with a maximum water depth of 2,140 m (7,000 ft). The project is about 450 km (280 mi) south of New Orleans.

Marine activities are scheduled to begin in 1Q 2013 using the newbuild pipelay vessel Castorone. The vessel currently is under construction and this project will be its first ever. The vessel is designed to lay pipelines with diameters to 152 cm (60 in) and is 330 m (1,083 ft) long, 39 m (128 ft) wide, and will have a DP-3 system.
