STAVANGER, Norway – Det Norske Veritas has awarded ATEX certification to the final portion of TDW Offshore Services’ remote pig tracking and pressure-monitoring system.

The SmartTrack system communicates through the pipeline using an extremely low frequency, says TDW. Because of this, the pig can be tracked whether it is subsea, in the topside or underground.

This last element in the system is the remote transceiver and personal digital assistant. Both use Intrinsic Safety while the transponder has a flameproof enclosure.

With the complete system, the pipeline operator can use a personal computer to activate, deactivate, and change parameters of the pipeline isolation tool, says TDW.
