CONSTANTA, Romania – GSP Offshore’s construction vessel GSP Bigfoot 1 now is on location in the Bulgarian sector of the Black Sea to begin pipelay operations for Melrose Resources.

The vessel will install 8.5 km (5.3 mi) of 6-in. (15.2-cm) diameter pipeline, 14.5 km of 10-in. (25.4-cm) pipeline, and two 1-in. (2.5-cm.) piggyback lines. The pipelines will connect the Kavarna-2 and Kaliakra-2 subsea wellheads to the Melrose-operated Galata gas platform.

Water depth along the pipeline route varies from 36-80 m (118-262 ft). The pipelines will have to cross existing subsea telecommunication cables – in March, theGSP Prince installed a protective 6 x 3 x 0.3 m (19.6 x 9.8 x 0.98 ft) concrete mattress in order to maintain clearance between pipeline and cable, with a burial depth of 1.5 m (4.9 ft).

The anchor handler tugGSP Vega towed GSP Bigfoot 1 to the location. GSP has also mobilized the GSP Prince, GSP Orion, and Amber II for diving and ROV support operations. GSP Bigfoot 3will be mobilized for the SAT diving works.
