(Paris) Statoil has awarded a Euro 23 m contract to Nexans to supply a direct electrical heating (DEH) system for the Tyrihans subsea flowlines. Tyrihans is a new field development in the Norwegian Sea.

The scope of the order comprises 46-km of Nexans 52kV cable and associated equipment for installation on the flowlines. DEH is designed to avoid build-up of hydrate or wax plugs in the event of a shutdown, or reduced flow rates. This particular system, which has been qualified in co-operation with Sintef Energy Research, will heat the ambient water temperature (6°C) to around 27°C.
