ABERDEEN, UK -- Petrofac has opened what it claims is the UK's first pipeline training center for the energy industry. The Montrose, Scotland-based facility comprises a 1 km, 10-in. pipeline loop. In addition to training for offshore and onshore personnel, it can be used for r&d and testing.

Equipment includes a supervisory control and data acquisition system which allows multiple scenario simulations to be programmed during training. Petrofac's Brownfield division built the center following consultation with oil and gas industry representatives. Courses range from a basic introduction to pipeline operations to pigging and corrosion engineering.
