PARIS -- Technip and Schlumberger are jointly developing subsea integrity and surveillance solutions for flexible pipes used in deep offshore oil and gas production.

The development is focused initially on surveillance systems activities for new and challenging flexible pipe applications such as those required in deepwater pre-salt offshore Brazil.

The partners expect to develop and qualify integrity solutions that use optical fiber to monitor parameters characterizing pipe behavior as well as retrofit solutions tailored to flexible pipes.

“By combining Technip’s technical and manufacturing knowledge of flexible pipe with Schlumberger surveillance technology, a new generation of intelligent flexible pipe will be created,” says Alain Marion, senior VP of subsea assets and technologies for Technip “The ‘measurement-enabled’ flexible pipe will provide significant value to the industry in safety, reliability, and performance.”
