LONDON –DNV has unveiled a new deepwater pipeline concept that it says can reduce the cost of a gas pipeline while maintaining the strictest integrity regime.

The X-Stream concept can reduce both the pipeline wall thickness, time spent welding, and installation compared to current practices, says DNV. This also increases the number of mills that can manufacture the pipe and the number of vessels that can do the deepwater lay work.

“It’s essential for DNV that the new concept meets the strict requirements of the existing safety and integrity regime, and I’m pleased to confirm that this concept does,” said Dr. Henrik O. Madsen, DNV’s CEO.
