TEHRAN -- Iran and Syria have agreed the route of a new trunkline that would carry supplies of Iranian gas to Europe.
National Iranian Gas Co.’s managing director, Javad Oji, speaking to Iranian news service Shana, said: “Under the new deal between the two countries, a gas pipeline will transfer Iran’s gas to Iraq and Syrian territories feeding their power plants and next through southern Lebanon will extend to the Mediterranean Sea and Europe.”
Oji added that the 110 MMcm/d (3.88 bcf/d), 56-in. diameter pipeline would be around 2,000 km (1,242 mi), of which 700-1,000 km (435-621 mi) would cross Iranian territory. The cost would be $2-2.5 billion.
