OSLO, NorwayDeepOcean’s US division has completed burial of a subsea pipeline for Genesis Energy in the US Gulf of Mexico using its UT-1 trenching system.

The deployment, from the subsea construction vessel Volantis, covered burial of 6-inch sections of the High Island A5 fuel support pipeline. According to DeepOcean, the system fulfilled requirements that included a 3-mile section across the Sabine Pass Fairway that meant lowering the pipeline to 10-ft top of product.

It was the first job in US waters for Volantis, which has been on charter to DeepOcean since 2008.

UT-1 is a 2,800-hp trencher capable of trenching cables and pipelines up to a 46-inch diameter. It can perform trenches more than 3 m deep, in water depths of up to 2,500 m, and it can also conduct backfill operations to provide further pipeline protection.
