ZUG, Switzerland – Nord Stream AG is monitoring the development of the COVID-19 outbreak for any potential impact on the Nord Stream gas pipeline system in the Baltic Sea.

The company said it was implementing the recommendations of the World Health Organization and other relevant authorities, such as Switzerland’s Federal Office of Public Health.

It has implemented various precautionary measures to protect personnel at headquarters in Zug, the pipeline landfalls in Germany and Russia, and the company’s branches.

At Zug and both landfalls, a minimum number of people are present at the workplace to ensure continuity of reliable operations.

The company pointed out that the pipeline system was designed and constructed in accordance with modern standards, with all safety functions fully automated and a configuration that allows for a minimum number of personnel to operate the pipeline securely.

It is continuously monitored and operated from the control center in Zug and staff at both landfalls, allowing for safe delivery of contracted gas volumes, the company added.
