ABERDEEN, UK – Cortez Subsea and AFGlobal have co-developed the Stinger Deployed Diverless Connector (SDDC) to perform pipeline tie-ins using an ROV.
The technology, when combined with other installation techniques, can deliver cost savings of up to 30%, they claim.
Cortez Subsea will deploy the SDDC offshore Malaysia for pipeline installation in the Berantai field for Vestigo Petroleum.
Managing director of Cortez Subsea, Alasdair Cowie, said: “Imagine shallow-water pipelay without welding, but with stronger joints, and pipeline connections without the need for divers, reducing the reliance on large vessels and crew.”
The solution is supported by AFGlobal’s Retlock clamp.
According to Martyn Conroy, managing director of AFGlobal UK, this is a lightweight and compact, two-bolt clamp that can connect mono and multi-bore, and which is suitable for vertical and horizontal applications.
To date it has been proven in more than 1,600 offshore applications.
