KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- Mitra Energy Ltd. has signed a production-sharing contract with Vietnam Oil and Gas Corp. for offshore blocks 28 and 29/03 in the western Nam Con Son basin.

The blocks, covering 12,989 sq km (5,015 sq mi), are in 50 m (164 ft) water depth.

The prospects of the undrilled western Nam Con Son basin is on par with that of the prolific Nam Con Son basin, where a number of hydrocabron projects are under way, Mitra says.

Mitra Energy has upstream assets in the Philippines and Indonesia and is backed by international investors.
