NEW ORLEANS -- The first MMS Central Gulf of Mexico lease sale (205) in its 2007 – 2012 OCS oil and gas leasing program is set for Oct. 3. Approximately 28.5 million acres in federal waters offshore Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama will be available for lease. The MMS estimates the sale could result in the production of 0.8 to 1.3 Bbbl of oil and 3.2 to 5.2 tcf of gas.
Lease Sale 205 includes 5,000 unleased blocks in the newly configured Central GoM OCS Planning Area from 3 to 224 mi (5 to 360 km) offshore in 12 to 11,200 ft (4 to 3,400 m) water depth.
