OSLO, Norway --Aker Exploration is set to acquire a 30% stake in Norsk Hydro Produksjon's production license 428 in the Norwegian Sea. This area covers a part-block northeast of the Draugen field.

In exchange, Aker may supply a drilling rig and cover Hydro's drilling expenses on future wells. Aker Exploration has a long-term contract with Aker Drilling for use of an advanced drilling rig, starting Oct. 2008.

The company has pre-qualified as a licensee on the Norwegian shelf, and also has submitted an application to pre-qualify as an operator. It is targeting prospects in the far north of the North Sea, the Norwegian Sea, and the Barents Sea, and is already using electromagnetic and seismic survey data to identify oil and gas resources.
