(Dublin) ExxonMobil is aiming to farm into 80% of a five-block, 700 sq km deepwater license 200 km in the Porcupine Basin offshore western Ireland. Subject to Irish government approval, the company will in return fund a 2-D seismic acquisition program on behalf of the current block partners, Dublin-based Providence and Sosina.
If the results look encouraging, ExxonMobil has the option to assume operatorship. The group's exploration president Tim Cejka commented: "This covers a large and unexplored area that will take several years to fully evaluate."
