(Luanda) Sonangol has awarded Tullow Oil a 50% operating interest in block 1/06 in the Lower Congo Basin, offshore Angola. The 3,800 sq km concession lies across water depths varying from 40 to 300 m, and includes three undeveloped oil fields, Pitangueira, Bananeira and Sapesapeiro.
Tullow expects to enter a production sharing contract with Sonangol this month. It is aiming to evaluate commerciality of the fields by drilling wells on two of the structures, late in 2007. The company is also planning to acquire 600 sq km of 3D seismic over the acreage.
Off Cote d'Ivoire, Tullow is CNR's partner in the West Espoir development, which recently produced first oil, via the first of five production wells. The project included a new wellhead tower linked via a 5.5-km pipeline to the Espoir FPSO, where fluids from East and West Espoir are commingled. Production should reach a peak of 10,000 boe/d late next year.
