PARIS -- Total E&P USA was the highest bidder on 13 blocks in the Central Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 206.
Situated in deep waters and close to Total's wholly owned blocks in the area, each of the thirteen lease sale blocks has of an area of approximately 25 sq km (9.6 sq mi). The lease period for the blocks is ten years.
Total E&P USA Inc. will operate and own 12 blocks in the Garden Banks and Keathley Canyon areas. The company will own 50% of the thirteenth blocks in partnership with Cobalt International Energy LP
Total has also recently acquired a 50% working interest from Cobalt in eight deep offshore blocks in the Garden Banks area close to Total's existing leasehold. Cobalt, the operator, acquired these blocks in 2006, for a lease-term of ten years.
