Forty-seven companies apply for APA 2008 acreage

A preliminary count by the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) shows that 47 companies have applied for acreage in the Awards in Predefined Areas 2008 (APA 2008).

STAVANGER, Norway -- A preliminary count by the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) shows that 47 companies have applied for acreage in the Awards in Predefined Areas 2008 (APA 2008).

Companies could apply for 215 blocks or parts of blocks by the application deadline on Oct. 3, 2008. This amounts to an area totaling 48,057 sq km (18,555 sq mi). The area that could be applied for is divided among 114 blocks/parts of blocks in the North Sea, 62 in the Norwegian Sea, and 39 in the Barents Sea.

According toa press release from the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy (MPE) the plan is to award new production licenses shortly after the new year.
