Statoil fined for Gullfaks safety incident

Statoil has accepted a fine exceeding $5 million from the public prosecutor for Rogaland county in Norway.

STAVANGER, Norway -- Statoil has accepted a fine exceeding $5 million from the public prosecutor for Rogaland county in Norway.

This follows investigations of awell control incident on the Statoil-operated Gullfaks C platform in the North Sea 2010.

Statoil adds that it has conducted an extensiveinternal improvement program to ensure that staff takes on board lessons learned from the incident.
