STAVANGER, Norway – ONS 2016 exceeded the organizers’ expectations, with a strong international attendance despite the impact of cost pressures on travel.
A total of 65,718 visitors passed through the 10 exhibition halls, with 1,241 exhibitors represented from 40 countries.
Leif Johan Svedland, president and CEO of ONS, said: “The high participation demonstrates an optimism in the industry and confirms that ONS is a key meeting place for fostering new business in a time of transition.”
With a recovery for the industry still apparently some way off, the committee has decided to freeze the current rates for stand locations for 2018.
Highlights of this year’s show included short presentations by analysts and senior industry executives at Centre Court, and the new Technical Sessions at the main conference center.
On average, around 800 delegates attended the main conference each day, with speeches from amongst others Eldar Sætre, president and CEO ofStatoil; Daniel Yergin; Ryan Lance, chairman and CEO of ConocoPhillips; Ben van Beurden, CEO of Royal Dutch Shell; and Pedro Parentehearing, president and CEO of Petrobras.
The three-day event featured 20 sessions and included regional overviews of activity in Russia and Eastern Canada. The main theme of ONS 2016 was transition, and issues related to this were debated throughout the conference
ONS program director Ingvild Meland said: “The conference program has been more extensive than previous years – we have gone from 88 presentations in 2010 to 500 presentations this year.”
Among the other highlights of the four-day event were the Innovation Awards, which went to TechInvent and Island Offshore/Centrica.
The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate/Ministry of Petroleum and Energy won the award for stands 50 sq m (538 sq ft) or larger, influenced, perhaps, by Sherlock Holmes’ study/library, while Vestteknikk secured the award for stands smaller than 50 sq m.
