Amerada Hess found oil at its Devils Island prospect in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. The Garden Banks 344 No. 4 well encountered more than 100 ft of net oil pay in a single reservoir. The well was drilled to a total depth of 24,525 ft in 2,300 ft water depth. The discovery is 135 miles offshore Louisiana.
"There are several attractive development options available for this discovery," said Robert P. Strode, senior vice president of E&P in the Americas. "Further evaluation and appraisal will be necessary before the best development option can be selected."
Operator Amerada holds 80% interest and EEX Corp. holds 20% interest.
