Sonangol USA Co. has formally launched its new Houston-based corporate headquarters. The size of the new facility demonstrates the expanding role that Sonangol expects to play in fostering increased strategic alliances between Angolan and US oil interests. The company has maintained a presence in Houston since 1997.
The headquarters is located at 1177 Enclave Parkway in Houston. Sonangol's Houston office markets 50% of Sonangol's portion of the 980,000 bbl of crude oil exported every day by Angola, with the remaining 50% marketed by the company's London office.
Nearly 300 local industry and business leaders, as well Sonangol EP Chairman Manuel Vicente and Sonangol USA President and CEO Baptista Sumbe, attended the celebration. Also in attendance were Botelho de Vasconcelos, the Angolan minister of petroleum; Ismael Martins, the Angolan ambassador to the United Nations; and Josefina Pitra Diakite, the Angolan ambassador to the US.
"We are pleased to dedicate our new office in Houston, and look forward to building even stronger relationships with US companies," commented Mr. Sumbe. "Angola is sub-Saharan Africa's second largest oil producer and the sixth largest supplier of crude oil to the US. We look forward to realizing the many opportunities for strategic partnership that exist between Angola and the US."
