Aberdeen-based Optima Integrated Energy Services has formed a joint venture with SLP Engineering in Lowestoft, UK, and Energy Sea and Land Projects in Houston, Texas, to provide oil and gas field engineering, construction, and life-of-field maintenance services to the Mexican sector. The operation will be based in Villahermosa, Tabasco.

Optima has long experience working on operating efficiency of North Sea platforms. SLP is an established platform builder and has a license to minimal facility designs such as the Sea Horse and Sea Pony. ESLP, which has experience working in Mexico, will take care of the venture's business development, including cost analysis, commercial bids, and technical presentations.

Under a separate agreement, ESLP Optima aims to foster technical cooperation between Aberdeen's Robert Gordon University and Universidad Tecnologica de Tabasco. This will give students from Mexico experience of engineering work on ESLP Optima projects in-house, helping them enter Mexico's oil and gas industry following graduation.
