ABS to class newbuild jackups

The American Bureau of Shipping has its work cut out for it in Singapore. According to Thomas Tan, the company's Singapore country manager, ABS has an unprecedented number of jackups on order to class in Singapore.

Twenty-four jackups are now on order with more orders expected in the next few months.

Keppel FELS Singapore, PPL Shipyard, and Jurong Shipyard are building the specialized drilling rigs. In addition to longstanding ABS clients such as Ensco and Mærsk Contractors, Norwegian owners, including Sinvest, Odfjell Drilling, and Awilco AS, are now building to ABS class.
