(Europe) - Statoil has opened its new Arctic Operations Center, based in Harstad, northern Norway.

Its main purpose will be to support production drilling on the Norne field in the Norwegian Sea and exploration activity in general in northern Norwegian waters.

According to the company, the new center will allow personnel from different engineering disciplines to collaborate more easily, in turn improving decision-making and -taking.

Spokesman Rune Espedal says, "It isn't primarily about new technology, but more efficient work processes. Forward-looking solutions and opportunities contribute here, and will strengthen our operations in the far north."
