M-I Swaco and Sakhalin Energy Investment Co. have awarded contracts for Sakhalin projects.

M-I Swaco has awarded Labtech Modular Engineering a contract for two cuttings reinjection units to for a project on Sakhalin Island. Labtech will design and build the unit and operator's control cabin for M-I Swaco at its Aberdeen headquarters. All the equipment deployed can withstand temperatures to -40° C.

The contract is Labtech's first win following the acquisition of ABZ Group in May. Manning levels have increased by 24 as a result of increased orders and the company plans to expand its workforce by a similar number over the next six months to cope with anticipated activity.

"This is a significant contract for Labtech and it is fitting that it should be the first to be announced by the company under the banner of the ABZ Group. Labtech has already successfully delivered several products for clients designed to withstand Sakhalin's harsh environment," ABZ Group director Bob Forbes says.

The other contract award involves facility controls.
Sakhalin Energy Investment Co. Ltd. has awarded Petrotechnics a £1 million contract for its Integrated Safe System of Work solution, Sentinel PRO. Petrotechnics will install Sentinel PRO on SEIC's existing assets and on the Sakhalin II integrated oil and gas development in the Russian Far East. The system is the first deployment on and offshore Sakhalin Island and the first implementation on an LNG facility worldwide.

Petrotechnics will provide consultancy services for the design, build and implementation of the system in addition to managing and delivering the associated training and coaching program.

"The rapid expansion of our operations on Sakhalin Island highlighted the need to standardize frontline work control across all our sites. The successful implementation of Sentinel PRO for Shell EPE influenced our decision to adopt the same solution in Russia," Frank Broomhead, operations readiness manager, SEIC, says.
