(Russia) - Statoil has signed a memorandum of understanding with the administration of Russia's Archangel county.

Under the agreement, Statoil will provide assistance in establishing a local oil industry supplier center to serve future developments in the Arctic region. This will build on experience derived from the Snohvit project in the Norwegian Barents Sea.

Additionally, Statoil will help set up a petroleum-directed Bachelor of Business Administration program at the Pomor State University in Archangelsk.

Norway's Unviversity of Science and Technology in Trondheim and Stavanger University will co-operate in teaching offshore petroleum technology at the Archangelsk Technical University. The various planned programs will be better defined at the first steering committee of the new partnership in Archangelsk in mid-December.
