(Oslo) - FMC Technologies and Siemens Power Generation have agreed to jointly develop solutions for subsea gas compression.

Following an accord signed in Oslo, Siemens' electric drive centrifugal compression technology will be adapted for installation on an FMC subsea module at depths down to 3,000 m.

One of the main challenges will be sealing these systems in a vessel that isolates the compressor and motor. The equipment must be capable of continuous operation for at least five years without the need for intervention.

The partners see the main areas for application as the Arctic Ocean, Brazil, the GoM, and West Africa, and possibly also the Norwegian shelf in the North Sea.
