Premier Oil, a partner in the current Tiof-6 appraisal well offshore Mauritania, has updated its progress. Tiof-6 is the fourth appraisal well on the field following two discovery wells completed in late 2003. The outcome of the current program is expected to have a major influence on development planning for the field.

Evaluation of wireline and drilling data over the past few days, including downhole pressure measurements and fluid sampling, suggests that the new well has intersected oil over a gross interval of at least 123 m. No gas or water leg appears to have been intersected. The interval features several sands of good quality and of varying thickness. The well will be cased and suspended, allowing the drilling rigWest Navigator to return to the Chinguetti field 25-km to the north for development work, before returning to Tiof-6 for a flow test.

Both this rig and theStena Tay will remain offshore Mauritania for much of this year, continuing the development and appraisal programs on both fields.
