Regulatory Energy Commission has awarded ChevronTexaco de Mexico a permit for a natural gas import terminal off the coast of Baja California, Mexico. This moves the company forward to deliver natural gas to Mexico. In addition, ChevronTexaco is the winner of the public licensing round for an offshore concession to construct and operate its offshore natural gas import terminal. The company received notice from Mexico's Communication and Transport Secretariat, through its Port Authority.

"The terminal will be designed to have an initial capacity of 700 MMcf/d and can be expanded based on future demand. ChevronTexaco's project is expected to bring additional investments and jobs to Baja California and, by diversifying the state's natural gas sources, contribute to more stable energy supplies and prices," Carlos Atallah, president of ChevronTexaco de Mexico, said.

The terminal will be more than 13 km offshore and will be designed with state-of-the-art safety and environmental standards.
