Monitoring software
Pinnacle Software has released WORKS Version 4.2, the latest version of the company's integrated software application for monitoring sub-surface activity and performing failure analysis. WORKS enables engineers, field foremen, and operators to track costs, rig activity, repeat well failures, and perform pre and post-mortem economics within a single program. Version 4.2 features an expanded data model and new graphic visualization for monitoring well performance and increased productivity. Circle 01 on Reader Service Card.Pig signalers
Pipeline Engineering & Supply has launched a new range of Unisig pig signalers [10,813 bytes] that combine the best features of all recognized pig signalers along with a number of new ones to make them more versatile and cost-effective. The Unisys features internals that can be removed, serviced, and replaced under full line pressure without the presence of an integral ball valve, an orientation locking system that does not require the boss to be orientated during installation, and the ability to be fitted to live pipelines using existing hot tapping systems. GeoGraphix has released several new components of the company's integrated data management, mapping, and interpretation systems. GES97 delivers enhanced deviated well functionality, expanded support for international map projections, open data access to the GES database, and pathways of integration with the company's other products. PRIZM v2.1 is a multi-well log analysis system that allows users to accurately present log interpretation results in a map view presentation. ResMap enables earth scientists and petroleum engineers to easily incorporate production and pressure data into geologic interpretations, property evaluations, and field operations in an integrated fashion. Flow Process Technologies has introduced a unique mixing system designed to dramatically improve efficiency in the mixing of drilling muds and drilling fluids called Aqua Shear [14,194 bytes]. The Aqua Shear mixing system utilizes low pressure hydraulic shear (rather than polymer damaging mechanical shear) to provide greater efficiency in blending, eliminating "fish eyes" in polymer mixing, emulsifying liquids, and reduced product settling. The design of the system enables it to hydrate polymers without subjecting them to mechanical shearing devices and maintaining the molecular length of the hydrated polymer chains. Keystone has launched the ICON (Intelligent Control Open Network) range of quarter and multi-turn actuators. The ICON actuators incorporate a non-intrusive electronic controls package that offers ultimate control and diagnostic capabilities. The ICON also allows operators accuracy and reliability of control and monitoring, providing useful and informative up-to-date and historical status reports. The flexibility of the ICON actuators enables stand alone and peer to peer control. The actuators also include systems for predicting valve/actuator failure. M-I has released a new six-page brochure that details how its proprietary Virtual Hydraulics [16,063 bytes] software package can be used to calculate such critical downhole properties as equivalent circulating densities, static fluid density, frictional pressure losses, and pump pressures. The software was designed to monitor the performance of M-I's synthetic and invert drilling systems. Virtual Hydraulics provides in graphic format, accurate downhole rheological information that can be used to expedite trend analysis and minimize risks. The brochure details how the program is used on critical wells to predict fluid behavior before spudding. Circle 06 on Reader Service Card.Triplex pump
Baker Oil Tools has introduced a lighter-weight triplex pump unit designed for use on offshore platforms. The SC1200 "Hercules" [12,062 bytes] pump, which provides power for gravel packing operations, was designed so that the total weight of the unit is evenly distributed for easier transport. The SC1200 produces 1500 hydraulic horsepower using a Detroit Diesel 12V149TA engine. The maximum pressure rating for the pump is 12,000 psi, and maximum pump rate is 16.1 bbl/min with 5-in. plungers. The minimum pump rate with no line pressure is 0.75 bbl/min. Pall is introducing a new filtration system that is more economical and more compact than what is typically required with other filtration technologies. Septra backwash filters [11,559 bytes] provide efficient removal of contaminants or valuable solids from process fluids with low operating power costs and with the added benefit of a compact system. The filter uses a crescent-shaped pleat design that provides up to ten times the surface area of standard cylindrical filter cartridges of comparable length and diameter, while still providing the durability to withstand automated, high-flow, gas-assisted backwashing. FCE has developed the Hercules Integral Flow Tee and Blow-Out Preventer (ITBOP [8,299 bytes]) which integrates a flow tee with a blowout preventer for improved progressing cavity (PC) pump operations. The one-piece design results in shorter overall height that separate components, providing maximum stability for PC pump driveheads. The standard model has a 2,000 psi WP and a 3-on. ID with a 3 1/8-in. 3,000 psi API top flange, 2-in. x 3-in. LP side outlets, and either 3 1/8-in. 2,000 psi or 7 1/16-in. 2,000 psi bottom flange. A 3,000 psi WP model is also available with a 4 1/16-in. max ID for production rates to 2,500 b/d of oil. Circle 09 on Reader Service Card.Copyright 1998 Oil & Gas Journal. All Rights Reserved.
