Asia's premier biennial oil and gas event, OSEA98, will be staged at the Singapore Suntec Centre from December 1-4 1998. Asia's premier biennial oil and gas event, OSEA98, will be staged at the Singapore Suntec Centre from December 1-4 1998. Despite the uncertain economic situation in the Far East, interest in the event is holding up well, according to the exhibition's project manager Victor Wong, with many new exhibitors taking space as well as more familiar names.

About 900 participants are expected, 80% of which will be from countries outside Singapore. There will also be group pavilions from Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, the UK, and USA. Services on display will span the full range of construction and engineering equipment, drilling and downhole tools and exploration and production technology.

Four shows are being held in conjunction with OSEA98:

  • RLP Asia '98, catering to the downstream oil and gas sector
  • Weldtech Asia '98, the 5th International Welding, Surface Treatment & Joining Technology Exhibition, relating to structural projects in the petrochemicals, oil and gas and maritime industries
  • SEAPEX Exploration Conference (Dec. 2-3)
  • Offshore and Marine Technology Conference.
SEAPEX, jointly organized by SES and the South East Asian Petroleum Exploration Society, is envisioned as a forum for exchanging ideas and experiences. Panel discussions on the first day include "The Impact of Technological Advances on Exploration & Production - the Last 10 years, the Next 10," and "Advances in Understanding of the Tectonics of SEA." Day two has planned case studies such as "New Life in Mature Areas" and "Frontier and Deep Water Exploration."

A wide range of topics has been proposed for The Offshore & Marine Technology Conference, including sea and air pollution, research and development, supply and support vessels, construction, load-out and installation and water treatment technology. This conference is organized by SES and the Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers Singapore.

At Weldtech Asia '98, a new event will be staged called The Asian International Welding Competition. In line with the industry's efforts to upgrade its technological capabilities, competitors will demonstrate their skills in fluxed cored wire welding, a time-efficient method used widely in shipbuilding yards in Japan. The competition will be divided into two categories - carbon-steel wire and stainless-steel wire. The former was adopted particularly in steel structure assembly and shipbuilding.
