Offshore India to debut in Mumbai

The inaugural Offshore India and Unconventional Oil & Gas India conference and exhibition will be presented by Offshore and the Oil & Gas Journal at the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai, India, Sept. 14-16. It will provide a platform for discussions on technical, strategic, and business topics affecting the Indian oil and gas industry.

Three-day event begins Sept. 14

The inaugural Offshore India and Unconventional Oil & Gas India conference and exhibition will be presented byOffshore and the Oil & Gas Journal at the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai, India, Sept. 14-16. It will provide a platform for discussions on technical, strategic, and business topics affecting the Indian oil and gas industry.

The conference advisory board has assembled a two-day program of presentations by key industry leaders. The conference program is divided into two technical tracks: offshore and unconventional oil and gas.

Session topics for the offshore track include deepwater technology, production optimization, regional challenges, and asset integrity.

Session topics for the unconventional oil and gas track include regions and plays, reservoirs and strategies, applied technology, and reservoir modeling and characterization.

The inaugural Offshore India and Unconventional Oil & Gas India conference and exhibition will provide a practical, solutions-oriented program for doing business in this rapidly expanding region of the world.

Held simultaneously with the conference, Offshore India and Unconventional Oil & Gas India features an exhibition showcasing leading local and international oil and gas suppliers, service providers, and equipment manufacturers. Each day the exhibition will open at 10 a.m.

Offshore India and Unconventional Oil & Gas begins Wednesday, Sept. 14, with an inaugural address by the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gases, the Honorable Jaipal Sudini Reddy. B.K. Chaturvedi, member of the (Energy) Planning Commission and conference chairman, was secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas until his appointment in June by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as Cabinet secretary; A.K. Hazarika, chairman and managing director of the Oil & Natural Gas Corp.; and Prashant Ruia, CEO of Essar Group will follow with conference welcome addresses.

On Thursday, Sept. 15, the opening plenary session begins at 9:00 a.m. Keynote speakers include Venugopal Dhoot, chairman of Videocon; PMS Prasad, executive director of Reliance Industries Ltd.; and R.S. Butola, chairman and managing director of Indian Oil Corp.

The plenary session, Business and Regulation in India, begins at 11:00. Speakers include Daniel Johnston of Daniel Johnston & Co. Inc; and A.K. Hazarika, chairman and managing director of Oil & Natural Gas Corp.

Friday, Sept. 16, opens at 9:00 a.m. with a plenary session: Indian Project Highlights – Refineries. Speakers include P.K. Kapil of Reliance Industries, who will discuss “Jamnagar Refinery Expansion and Strategies;” and Kumar Swain of Essar, who will discuss the “Vadinar Refinery Expansion.”

The next plenary session, Indian Project Highlights – Exploration, includes Mark Blanche of Cairn India discussing “Mangla Bhagyam Aishwariya Field Development and Pipeline,” and Prem Sawhney of Essar Energy discussing “Coal Bed Methane Developments in India.”

Offshore session highlights

Session 2: Deepwater Technology begins with a presentation on “Hydrocarbon Base Fluids for Deepwater Drilling Applications” by Dr. Daniel Bien of ExxonMobil Chemical Asia Pacific. Bien is the fluids market development and technical leader for Asia Pacific. He holds a diploma in chemistry and a Ph.D. in organic chemistry.

Thuraiappah Sreetharan of Reliance Industries Ltd. then will speak on “Installation of Deep Water Infield Flowlines which are Shorter than Water Depths.” Sreetharan, RIL's offshore engineering manager, has more than 26 years of experience in oil and gas projects including full field deepwater and shallow water developments, managing engineering consultants, EPC contractors, and secondment to clients on high profile national and international projects.

He will be followed by Dr. Prabu Parthasarathy of MSiKenny, who will discuss “Deepwater Flow Assurance Design Challenges in Large Gas Condensate Developments.”

Session 3: Production Optimization includes a presentation on “Subsea Boosting Systems – Field Proven Technologies for Increased Recovery” by Mads Hjelmeland of Framo Engineering. He has experience working with the design of multi-phase pump and wet gas compression systems.

Then, Ken Campbell of Norse Cutting & Abandonment will discuss “Increased Production Utilizing Existing Infrastructure.”

He will be followed by Paul Handgraaf, CEO of Thermtech AS, presenting “Reusing Recovered Base Oil from OBM Cuttings.”

Offshore session 6: Regional Challenges begins with a presentation on “A Present Day Requirement for Economic Transportation” by Harish Chandra of the Indian Oil Corp. Ltd.

Zahar Mohd Hashim Zainuddin, CEO and principal consultant of Global Mariner Offshore Services, will then discuss “FPSO Solutions for Asia's Offshore Development.”

He will be followed by Jose Esteve Otegui of Bureau Veritas presenting “The Coming Future in Inspection and Maintenance of an FPSO.” He started with the company in 2001 as a project engineer carrying out structural analyses for the Commercial Department of the Marine Business Line. In January 2011 he was appointed manager of the Offshore Centre in Singapore.

Session 7: Asset Integrity will begin with a presentation on “Asset Management for Offshore Operations” by Dr. Kanika Singh of KHAN Offshore.

He will be followed by Engr. Jacky Massaglia of V&M Tubes, who will discuss “Premium Tubular and Connection Solutions for Casing and Tubing in HP/HT wells.”

Mr. Piyush Khullar of Wearresist Technologies Pvt. Ltd. will then conclude the session with “Bristle Blasting: A ‘Green' Approach to Corrosion Removal and Surface Preparation.”
