TGS, Chevron enter seismic imaging partnership
TGS has formed a strategic collaboration with Chevron to advance next-generation seismic imaging technology.
The two companies will jointly invest in R&D in solutions such as Elastic Full Waveform Inversion (eFWI) and machine learning–driven workflows, using TGS' Imaging AnyWare platform and Chevron's proprietary algorithms.
CEO Kristian Johansen said: “This collaboration reflects TGS’s ambition to evolve into a true strategic imaging partner and to push the boundaries of what is possible in subsurface imaging.”
In other developments TGS revealed it had secured a multi-year contract from an unnamed IOC to develop AI-powered seismic foundation model capabilities and intelligent subsurface interpretation.
The company will deploy its TGS Seismic Foundation Model for structural and stratigraphic interpretation, in order to enhance subsurface evaluation and interpretation across selected exploration and development workflows.
This is an AI model trained on the company’s worldwide seismic multi-client library to learn geological patterns directly from seismic data. It is said to help interpreters work faster and more consistently through supporting a broader range of subsurface interpretation workflows
In the Far East, TGS has unveiled plans for the Sarawak Phase 4 multi-client program offshore Malaysia, spanning a 1,020-sq km area. The Ramform Sovereign should mobilize for the survey in Q4, completing acquisition in December.
This is the fourth phase of a multi-client contract to acquire and process up to 105,000 sq km of multi-client 3D data offshore Sarawak, on top of the 20,000 sq km-plus acquired during the first three phases.
Petronas, via Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), is working to improve its data sets in order to introduce new exploration plays, notably imaging the pre-Middle Miocene Unconformity play in the deepwater area of Sarawak Basin.
This will help E&P companies assess potential opportunities in the Malaysia Bid Round.
Finally, the Petroleum Authority of Brunei Darussalam has awarded TGS data brokerage, marketing and licensing rights for subsurface data over an offshore Brunei block.
This includes 3D seismic, well information and associated technical reports to assist companies evaluating the block, helping to reduce subsurface uncertainty ahead of participation in the block licensing process.
The Petroleum Authority is seeking wider international investment in Brunei Darussalam’s upstream sector.
