A two-month 3D seismic survey is underway over a shallow-water area offshore Suriname, according to a Nov. 27 Staatsolie news release.

BGP Offshore and TGS are conducting the multi-client program over a 2,000-sq-km area where water depths range from 20-50 m. The BGP Prospector vessel is towing eight x 6-km long streamers at a depth of 9 m.

State oil company Staatsolie said the goal was to map potential oil and gas structures that would support Suriname’s recently introduced Open-Door Offering for new exploration and development opportunities.

While BGP and TGS will be able to sell the data to third parties, Staatsolie will own the data, which it will use for its own exploration activities as well as receiving a share of the proceeds from any sale.

The project is being conducted in compliance with guidelines issued by the country’s National Environmental Authority.
