Offshore operators and international oil companies are advancing plans for several field development projects.

United Oil & Gas (UOG) says Jamaica’s National Environment and Planning Agency has granted an environmental permit and a beach license for UOG’s planned offshore technical program on the Walton-Morant license.

The piston core survey will involve retrieving 40 to 60 seabed sediment samples from the Walton and Morant basins using a long, cylindrical piston corer. This is designed to penetrate the seafloor and take undisturbed score samples from the seafloor.

Samples will then undergo geochemical analysis to help the company improve its understanding of the hydrocarbon generation potential and reservoir quality across the license area.

To support selection of suitable seabed locations, a multibeam echosounder survey is planned over deeper areas of the license, notably parts of the Morant Basin not presently covered by 3D seismic data.

Also planned is a heat probe analysis at selected locations to measure background heat flow and sediment thermal conductivity. The results will assist basin modeling and petroleum system analysis, helping UOG to identify and prioritize areas that could contain commercial hydrocarbons.
