Fugro to conduct site investigations for two German North Sea wind developments

Fugro will perform geophysical and geotechnical site investigations for the Windbostel Ost and Windbostel West wind farms in the German North Sea.

Fugro will perform geophysical and geotechnical site investigations for the Windbostel Ost and Windbostel West wind farms in the German North Sea.

These will have a combined generating capacity of 4 GW. The co-developers are RWE and TotalEnergies.

Fugro’s site characterization work will provide geodata on the seabed and subsurface conditions northwest of the island of Borkum.

The company’s geophysical surveys will provide initial detailed mapping of the seabed and shallow subsurface layers, uncover any potential hazards, and help inform early design considerations.

Via in-situ testing and sampling, the geotechnical investigation will deliver data on the seabed’s soil composition and characteristics.

Overall, the data will support foundation design, structural analysis, cable routing and risk assessment during the project’s construction and operational phases.

Previously Fugro conducted geotechnical studies for the 1.6-GW Nordseecluster offshore wind project (RWE, 51%) in the German sector, and it acquired geotechnical data for the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH).
