Shearwater Geoservices has started its second season of acquisition for the Pelotas Basin multi-client 3D seismic survey offshore southern Brazil, using the SW Empress vessel.
The project, which is the sixth multi-client 3D campaign for the Shearwater/Searcher Seismic joint venture, will expand the Pelotas area coverage beyond 10,000 sq km.
Areas to be covered include large swathes of open acreage expected to be made available in the 5th cycle of the Brazilian Open Acreage Release, and other acreage awarded last year in the 4th cycle.
According to Shearwater, results should help de-risk exploration in the basin, which has a geological connection with the hydrocarbon-proven deepwater Orange basin offshore Namibia and South Africa.
Constellation Oil Services has been awarded a new contract with Petrobras for the deployment of the ultradeepwater Amaralina Star drillship for operations offshore Brazil.
