LYSAKER, NorwayMagseis and Seismic Apparition have agreed to jointly develop and implement a new technology said to reduce the operational time for ocean bottom seismic (OBS).

They expect to complete the technology development within the next nine months and stage commercial field tests during 2018.

Unlike existing techniques for increasing the number of sources, the Source Isolation technology is said to deliver full fold, full-length isolated sources, with the prospect of reservoir-quality data from efficient exploration configurations.

In addition, the technology is said to potentially cut the cost of OBS data acquisition by 30-50%. The Source Isolation technology will be applicable to reservoir 4D projects and more regional surveys.
